Google’s own menu item doesn’t work until you install something else.
The extension Google wants you to install is Google Docs Offline, a separate add-on required to unlock a menu item you can already see. PlainPaste does the paste itself instead.

Why does Google ask for an extension at all?
Browsers restrict what a web page may read from your clipboard. Google routes around that with the Google Docs Offline extension, which is why the menu item is gated behind an install prompt.
Do I still need Google Docs Offline?
Not for pasting plain text. If you use Docs offline for actual offline editing, that is a separate feature and you can keep both installed.
Can I just use the keyboard shortcut?
Yes, Command or Control plus Shift plus V has always worked. PlainPaste is for people who reach for the menu, and for the times the shortcut is taken by something else.
Does it track me?
No. It runs locally on Google Docs pages, has no account, and collects nothing.
